If you have a Google Business Profile, you already know you are supposed to post on it regularly. Google likes it, customers see it, and it can help your local rankings. But let’s be honest, most business owners forget to do it. It feels like one more chore on a long list.
We are going to show you how we solve this for our clients. The best part is, the main tool we use is completely free.
Why Posting on Google Business Profile Matters
Google Business Profile posts show up when someone searches for your business or finds you on Google Maps. Posting often tells Google that your business is active. It also gives potential customers something fresh to see, like a recent job, a promotion, or a helpful tip.
The problem is not knowing this matters. The problem is actually doing it every single week.
The Common Way: Social Media Tools
A lot of people try to handle this with social media scheduling tools like Buffer. These tools can work, and if you already use one for Facebook and Instagram, it might cover Google Business Profile too.
But these tools often come with a monthly fee, and they are usually built for general social media, not specifically for Google Business Profile. That is why we prefer a different tool.
The Tool We Actually Use: Postamatic
The tool we use for our own business and for our clients is called Postamatic. It is a free Google Sheets add-on built by a company called Two Octobers.
Instead of logging into another app, Postamatic works right inside a Google Sheet you already have open. You fill in rows with your post details, like the date, the message, a link, and an image. Then the tool checks your sheet each day and publishes whatever post is scheduled for that day.
Here is why we like it:
- It is free
- It works inside a spreadsheet, which most people already understand
- It supports multiple business locations at once
- It can schedule posts far into the future
- It already includes UTM tagging, so you can track how well your posts perform in Google Analytics
Why This Pairs So Well With AI
Filling out a spreadsheet full of posts by hand still takes time. This is where AI tools like Claude or ChatGPT come in.
Postamatic uses a simple spreadsheet template with clear columns for things like the date, the post text, and the image link. You can take that same template and hand it to an AI tool. Ask it to write a month of posts based on your business, your services, and your location. In just a few minutes, you can have weeks of content ready to go, instead of staring at a blank cell trying to think of something to say.
Step by Step: Setting This Up Yourself
Here is how to get this running for your own business.
Step 1: Install Postamatic
Open Google Sheets and create a new blank spreadsheet. Go to the Extensions menu, then Add-ons, then Get add-ons. Search for Postamatic and install it. You may need to approve a few permissions so it can connect to your Google Business Profile.
Step 2: Run the Initial Setup
Once it is installed, go to Extensions, then Postamatic, then Run Initial Setup. This builds out the tabs and columns you need inside your spreadsheet. It only takes a few seconds.
Step 3: Connect Your Business Locations
Next, go to Extensions, then Postamatic, then Get Locations. This pulls in all the Google Business Profile locations tied to the Google account you are using. If you manage more than one location, they will all show up here.
Step 4: Set Your Posting Schedule
Open the CONFIG tab inside the spreadsheet. Here you can choose what hour of the day you want the tool to check for posts and publish them. Set this once and you generally will not need to touch it again.
Step 5: Fill In Your Posts
This is where the spreadsheet does the real work. Each row represents one post. You will fill in columns for things like:
- The date you want the post published
- The text of the post
- A link, such as your website or a booking page
- An image link for the photo you want to use
Step 6: Let AI Write the Content for You
Instead of writing each post yourself, open the Postamatic template and copy the column headers. Paste those into a chat with Claude or ChatGPT. Tell the AI about your business, your services, your location, and what kind of tone you want. Ask it to fill in rows of posts that match those columns.
This can turn a task that normally takes an hour or more into something you finish in just a few minutes.
Step 7: Double Check Your Images
One common mistake is using image links that come from complicated hosting services. If Google cannot easily reach the image, the post will fail to publish. Keep your image links simple, and host them somewhere easy to access, like Google Drive set to public viewing or a simple image host.
Step 8: Let It Run
Once your rows are filled in with the right dates, Postamatic will check each day at the hour you chose. If a row matches today’s date, it publishes that post automatically. You can come back every few weeks to add a new batch of posts, and the system keeps running in the background.
A Few Tips From Experience
After setting this up for many clients, here are a few things we always remind people of:
- Always double check the date column. If the date is wrong, the post simply will not go out.
- Batch your content. Sit down once a month, use AI to generate a month’s worth of posts, then load them all in at once.
- Mix up your post types. Use a blend of promotions, tips, recent work, and general updates so it does not feel repetitive.
- Keep an eye on your UTM tags in Google Analytics so you can see which posts actually bring people to your site.
The Bottom Line
You do not need to pay for an expensive tool or spend hours every week writing posts by hand. With a free tool like Postamatic and a little help from AI, you can keep your Google Business Profile active and consistent with just a small amount of effort each month.
If you would rather not deal with the setup yourself, this is exactly the kind of thing we handle for our clients every month. Reach out and we can get this running for your business too.
